Bullying 2

Dear Editor

Good morning, I’m Luna Lee from Brent International School Baguio. Nowadays in high school, bullying is getting worse and schools don’t work out with the situation what is happening in their campus. The schools must do something for the students who are in pain right now.
They compile statistics that when the students are bullied, they end their lives by committing suicide, which is bad case. I recommend that we should build schools for the people who bullied someone. We should let know the society that they made a wrong action and we should punish them. In Korea, they are already going through with this solution. As you, editor, have said in your article in “No excuse for bullying,” this message should have received loud and clear before now.
Teachers should strongly teach their students that bullying is one of the criminal acts. We should give a hand to those students who are bullied by others and make some solutions for that. I strongly advocate that we should do something for these situations. Thank you.

Bullying

Dear Editor

Good afternoon. This is Luna Lee from Brent International School Baguio, which is located in the Philippines. I read your article about “Bullying and victims’ rights.” Every year, the rate of verbal abuse or harassment and the important thing is that, it happens especially in High school students. Many high school students suffer from bullying and they couldn’t tell to anybody because nobody would believe the fact that they are bullied by others. Only few schools around the world have solutions or punishment for bullying.
We must do something for those students who are suffering from these situations even right now. If we ignore what is happening around the students, the result is terrible. They will just commit suicide, and those who bullied will regret for what they have done. For the benefits of both sides, we should make rules that those who bullied will have a punishment, and for the students who suffered from bullying, schools must recommend for counseling session for them.

First, we should go through these solutions which country has high suicide rate such as South Korea, Japan, and India. All the teachers’ students must participate with this solution and we have to tell the students that they are not alone. Thank you for reading this letter and I hope the society would change in a better way.

Revised

Generally, age 13 is the start of adolescence for girls. They become taller, girlish, have physical, and emotional changes too. Among these changes, and emotional change is the most annoying thing. Parents become an enemy, and friends become the best for you. However; when you grow old, you will definitely regret. Now, by following these guidelines, you will have a good relationship between you and parents.

First, be with parents at least once a week. The most important way to have a good relationship with parents is to have  some time with them. Most teenage girls are busy everyday. During weekdays, they have to go to school, do homework, and study. On weekends they are also busy hanging out with their friends. Try to have time with parents at least on Sunday. You can play cards with them or talk with them about what happened during the week.

Second, to your parents if you have any problem, teen agers, most think that the person whom they could talk with is their friends. Actually, it is not! Friends can listen to you but can’t help you fix it. The one who can solve the problem is your parents. Talk to them so that they will know what is happening to you and try to help you.

Having a good relationship is one of the hardest things while living. Parents, and friends are the closest people, but they are the hardest people to talk about the problem and rely on. When you are still young, try to build good relationships with them! When you regret something. It is already late for you! Love your parents from the bottom of your heart.

Do we need other people in order to understand ourselves

It is really hard to understand who you are. Even when people say the truth about you, it is still hard to accept it right away. Knowing yourself is important. If you know yourself, you will be successful in everything such as academics, business, and even love. However, who can really figure out who you are? Some people say that we, ourselves, are the only ones who can figure out and understand ourselves. But mostly, they say that parents and friends are the basic people who know us. I agree with the latter.

Parents are the most trust-worthy people in the whole world. They are the ones who gave birth, and took care of us for their half life. They serve as a bridge or a guide that tell us which the right way is. You will never guide your love ones to the wrong path. Furthermore,  one thing that we have to remember is that parents also went through what we experienced, and what we are experiencing now. What they say to us comes from their own experienced. For example, when I was in my previous school, my parents recommended that I transfer to a better school. At first, I didn't want to transfer because I heard lots of bad things about that school, but when I transferred, I found that everything was nice and that my parent were right. This shows how we cant just ignore our parent's words because everything is coming from the bottom of their heart to guide us to a better way.

Friends are also an important source of knowing ourselves. There is saying, Tell me who you friends are, then I will figure out who you are. They say that friends are the mirror of yourselves. People can judge you just by knowing who your friends are. Another important thing is that true friends always tell you which is good and bad. When making a decision, we usually ask our friends for advice. Friends won't guide you to a bad way if they are real friends. So, we always have to be careful when choosing friends.

Knowing and understanding ourselves is the most difficult homework that we need to solve until we die. It is better to ask our parents and friends who we are so that we can change ourselves to become a better,  and successful person.

Project 2

Being a high school student is never easy! Deadlines, home works, projects and tests—these are just a few things that will stress you out. Being a high school student in Brent International School is harder! No pain, no gain—since being a graduate of Brent is no small deal, we have to really work for it! However, the hardest part is always the beginning. Adjusting to a new school and lifestyle has never been easy (unless you are Miss Congeniality). So, here is a list of some things that you should know if you just entered Brent Upper School.

First, learn how to socialize. Brent school is an international school. There are many students from different countries. Especially Koreans, they have some discrimination towards foreigners. If you are a student of Brent International School, you should learn how to socialize with people who come from different countries by hanging out with them or talk with them during break time or lunch time.

Second, master English. Because they use different languages and they came from all different countries, you are only allowed to use English. Even if your English skill is bad, when you study in Brent International School, you will get familiar with English. Try to use English when you talk with your friend even though he or she came from the same country.

Third, be punctual. You should be also a punctual person when it comes to classes, some students in Brent International School get what we call ‘Orange Slip’ which teachers use to punish their students, or they get a deduction in their work even though it is perfect. Since you don’t want this to happen to you, be punctual. Appeal your good attitude to the teachers!

Fourth, do not procrastinate! Some people don’t want to finish their work at the right time. They usually copy their classmates work or they will not do it. Every minute is equal to one point, so when you get your work, try to finish first when you arrive your home.

Fifth, know your teachers well. Every teacher has a different style of teaching, and giving the test. When you know your teacher’s style, it is much easier for you if you are reviewing for the test. Try to figure out styles of your subject teachers.

Sixth, learn how to prioritize. Time management is key. Brent International school students have lots of things to do such as assignments, projects, and presentations. A good thing about Brent is that they have two days to complete their work because subjects in Brent School are alternate. If today is Day 1, tomorrow is Day 2, and the next day, it goes back to Day 1 again. Be careful when you pack your things before coming to school by checking your assignment note or asking your classmates.
Seventh, never deny. It is normal to feel that the subjects are difficult for you. Especially G11, and G12, they have a program called the “International Baccalauriate”, and it is so difficult to handle it. The main point is that you have to enjoy the difficulties rather than to deny. They have remedial sessions from 2:30~3:00, so if you think you have problems with some subjects, you can go to the subject teachers, and ask for help.

Last, have fun. You have to enjoy your high school life because you can experience it only once in a life time. The advantages about Brent School are that you can enjoy your high school life while studying: They have some activities such as House games, Brent day, Field day, etc. During those days, what you have to do is to forget about studies, and to have fun by joining the activities! Being a student is stressful, but Brent International gives you extracurricular activities to experience a balanced and happy life!
As I have said, being high school, especially at Brent School, is not a walk in the park; however, this is not an excuse not to have fun. At Brent, we work hard, but we play harder! Good luck on your life as a Brentonian!

Project Final

Have you ever tried waking up in the morning only to be surprised by a huge zit on your nose? Definitely, most of the girls like me out there have tried it. Taking care of one’s skin has never been easy among teenagers for it sets a solid foundation during our later years. Oily skin, blackheads, and acne are common among teenagers who are under puberty. This is a high time when our hormones get to produce so much sebum or oil that lubricates our skin and hair. If this sebum clogs our skin pores, a pimple starts to appear on our body parts especially in our face!
However, do not fret! Us, girls only need to do simple things to keep our skin nice, fresh, and acne-free! Normally, genetics and hormones cause skin problems, but the main culprit is still bad hygiene and improper care. Saying this, avoiding skin problems can be as easy as 1-2-3. By following these simple tips, a girl can say bye-bye to bad skin!

One of the tings that we have to do is to wash our face at least twice a day with warm water and a mild soap especially made for removing acne.  One may opt to use a facial wash formulation that suits her skin type. Gently massage your face with circular motion. It is important that you don’t scrub because it causes skin irritation.  After cleansing, apply a moisturizer.  Moisture is the skin’s nourishment. It keeps the skin soft and supple. Without enough moisture, your skin looks dull and lifeless. However, a person with an oily skin might need to do it lesser like once a day. Choose a moisturizer that will suit your skin type the best, but one that contains benzoyl peroxide is highly recommended by dermatologists. This will definitely decrease oil and bacteria.

The second one is to protect ourselves from too much exposure from the sun by wearing a sunscreen cream!  The sun is very important for our lives, but it can also be harmful to us. The rays from the sun contain UV rays that bring harm to our skin. In fact, ninety percent (90%) of premature aging (read: wrinkles!) is caused by the sun. This is why it is very important to use sunscreen cream. Sunscreen cream protects our skin from the UV rays that cause wrinkles and even skin cancer. Use sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15, although, I would recommend something higher. If you are doing an outdoor activity and will have prolonged sun-exposure, do not forget to make use of it and reapply when needed.

Last, but not definitely the least is not to pop pimples! It may be tempting at times, but we definitely shouldn’t. Popping pimples may cause infected material to be pushed further into the skin that will cause more swelling, redness, or worse, scarring. It is important that you seek the help of a dermatologist especially when you notice it before a big event like the prom.

Looking good is never easy. Nevertheless, skin-care does not need to be tedious. Just follow these simple steps and I am sure you will have a nice-looking and healthy skin in your lifetime!

Taking Care of a Teenager’s Skin

Stress is the number one problem of a woman. Stress does not only ruin our mood, but it also affects our health drastically. As teenagers, we receive a lot of problems from school, from home, and even from friends. On top of that, we also have to take care of our appearance. Society expects girls to always look nice and proper—this puts more stress on us, girls! Especially at this time, we are at a stage where our skin is at its most sensitive. An acne breakout is one thing that we wouldn’t want to happen at this time.

The first rule is to protect! The sun is very important for our lives. It makes everything able to grow and prosper; however, it is bad for our skin! The rays from the sun contain UV rays that bring harm to our skin. In fact, 90% of premature aging (read: wrinkles!) is caused by the sun. This is why it is very important to use sunscreen. Sunscreen protects our skin from the UV rays that cause wrinkles and even skin cancer. Use sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15 although I would recommend something higher. Use this every time whether you are going out of the house or not. If you are doing an outdoor activity and will have prolonged sun- exposure, do not forget to reapply.

Next is to choose your facial wash wisely. Some girls do not care about what they use to wash their face with. Some girls even use the body soaps for their face--   this is a bad mistake! Every skin type has a preferred facial wash formulation. A girl should look for one that suits her skin type as the facial wash might even aggravate a skin problem. For example, an oily skin will definitely benefit from a gel-type wash since it does not contain much oil. Finding the best facial wash for your skin type is easy: the cosmetic girl at the department store or your dermatologist can always help a lot.

Finally, moisturize! Moisture is the skin’s nourishment. It keeps the skin soft and supple. Without enough moisture, your skin looks dull and lifeless. Even oily skin needs moisturizing! After cleansing, it is a rule to apply a moisturizer to keep the moisture in your face. However, a person with an oily skin might need to do it lesser like once a day. Choose a moisturizer that will suit your skin type the best (again, ask your dermatologist or the girl at the store), and make moisturizing a habit!

Looking good is never easy. Nevertheless, skin-care does not need to be tedious. Just follow these simple steps and I am sure you will have nice- looking and healthy skin for a long time!
