Decision

How do you make decisions? Are you the kind of person who makes decisions quickly or do you think twice before making ones? There are many people who say that making decisions quickly always leads to a wrong decision. However, personally, I disagree with the claim that people who make decisions without thinking twice are always wrong. There are several reasons to support my opinion.

First of all, there are some people who think quickly, but they are actually doing the right thing. For an instance, there was a family whose father worked abroad. The two daughters stayed with their mom. Unfortunately, one of the daughters committed suicide, and when the other family members found it out, they were so shocked so they didn’t know what to do because they couldn’t think properly. All they could think of was to call 911, and they did. Because of their quick decision, they were able to save her. In this situation, we can see that making decisions quickly isn’t always wrong. In cases of emergency, one has to think fast before something worse happens.

Secondly, this is also true in the saying , “If you don’t know the answer to a question, say what’s in your head before somebody gives the right answer.” Who knows if it’s actually correct? This saying doesn’t tell us to just simply say anything; it tells us to think, but not for a long time. If given the chance to think within a long time, it would be good, but learning how to think quickly is better. There was a time when one of my teachers in grade school gave us a guessing activity. I was called and I didn’t know what to say because it was a timed activity. I didn’t have enough time to think , but I tried to make a decision by giving an answer. Right there and then, my group and I were given a point for somehow giving an answer. It was a decision that I didn’t think of a lot of times, but it was worth it.

Finally, I want to throw back the question to you. Have you ever tried making decisions quickly? If so, did they lead you to wrong ones? There are times in our life when we have to think quickly because the situation tells us there is a need to. I remember my teacher telling me that she would have been dead from a car accident if she didn’t decide to bump her car in a tree instead of the car in front of her. In this incident, her quick decision gave her a second chance at life. She had made a decision that led her to the right action.

In conclusion, making quick decisions might be wrong, but it isn’t the case all the time. There are some situations, which prove that thinking quickly could make a difference in somebody’s life. It doesn’t really matter whether you think once or twice when making decisions; what matters is the fact that you’ve made a decision to address a certain situation.
