Women’s New Generation
Usually in Korea, our tradition is that women must follow what their husband command. In our country, men are more important than women for several reasons. According to old people men are stronger than the women, and they are the ones who will perpetuate the next generation. That is the tradition in Korea. But in this 21st century generation, women are stronger than men, and now they have power to assert themselves over the men, which means that the tradition changed. I would like to recommend a book titled The Long Season of Rain written by Helen Kim.
This book is about what happened to a family during Changma(Rainy Season) to the winter. In this story, you can find that the mother is stereotypical of a traditional wife. This is an interesting story. Even though you are not familiar with books, I’m sure you can enjoy reading this novel. In addition, you can learn some of the lessons from this novel. For me, I really learned lots of lessons but I’m going to tell two main lessons,
The first lesson is that show your love to the people whom you love. In the novel, Father doesn’t show his love to Mother and his family. Because of this, Mother left the house. Since Mother left the house, there was effect to the children too. They were so scared that Mother wouldn’t come back anymore. But in the end, mother came back and you can find some reasons why mother came back. Try to show your love. Even though you do love somebody but you don’t show your feeling, how does he/she know? Expressing your feeling is not a bad thing.
Second lesson is always be strong enough to challenge irrelevant traditions in society. In the story, I think Mother was timid to stand against the society. We should always stand still whenever pain or a hard time comes. However in this generation, women are so powerful
